Ballo in maschera directed by José Cura
After the great success of La commedia è finita, the meta-show directed and starred by José Cura, the multifaceted artist is directing and set designing Verdi's Ballo in maschera for Oper Kõln.
José Cura about Ballo: "From the very beginning of the opera, Un ballo in maschera is exactly that: a big masquerade in which nobody, apart from little Oscar, is who seems to be. From the hypocrisy of Riccardo to the opportunism of Amelia and Renato and the two-facedness of Sam and Tom, this opera shows to which degree human ambition wins over sense of duty, integrity, friendship and love".
A deep passion for teaching
Masterclasses 2008 - Every year, Maestro José Cura dedicates lots of time and devotion to develop the skills of talented young singers. As Patron of New Devon Opera and Visiting Professor of Voice of the Royal Academy of Music, the 2008 series of master classes will take place in London during the month of September.
Comment by Marie Karall (Masterclass 2007, Nancy) "It is a chance for young people like us to rub elbows with a true artist. [...] He is as rigorous and meticulous as he is passionate, and he has a great love for music but also for young people. For me, singing under these conditions was a real pleasure."
